Amerigroup Winter Warm Up Event at Wal-Mart in Gainesville

Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County will participate in a community health fair on November 21 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart in Gainesville. Safety experts will be available to answer your questions about various injury areas including child passenger safety, fire safety, wheeled sports safety, poison prevention and much more.

National Family Week Celebration at Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK)

Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County will participate in the National Family Week Celebration on November 23 from 1:00 - 5:00 at Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK) Safety experts will be available to answer your questions about various injury areas including child passenger safety, fire safety, wheeled sports safety, poison prevention and much more.

FREE Child Safety Seat Check at Target in Gainesville

Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County will host a free child safety seat check event on December 5 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Target store in Gainesville.  Certified child passenger safety technicians will check the installation of your child safety seat and provide assistance if needed.

Poison Prevention Instructor Training Program @ Lanier Park Campus in the Blue Ridge Room

The Georgia Poison Center and Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County will host a Poison Prevention Instructor Training Program (ITP) on Monday, January 14 from 10:00 - 2:00 in the Blue Ridge Room at the Lanier Park Campus.

The program is a train-the-trainer program designed to prepare safety advocates to teach poison prevention to children and adults.  The goal of the ITP is to increase the number of Georgians who have knowledge and skills to prevent and manage unintentional poisoning.

The registration fee for the program is $20 per person and is due by December 31.  Checks should be made payable to the Georgia Poison Center and mailed to Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County along with the registration form.  To download the registration form, click here.

Each participant completing the ITP are equipped with the information and resources needed to educate their communities about poison prevention including:

  • ITP manual
  • Free poison prevention materials
  • Exposure newsletter subscription
  • Georgia Poison Center speaker's bureau membership (optional)
  • Annual awards dinner
  • NGHS employees will receive education credit hours

Family Block Party at Lakeshore Mall

Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County will participate in a Family Health Fair at Lakeshore Mall on January 24 from 10:00 - 2:00.  Safety experts will be available to answer your questions about various injury areas including child passenger safety, fire safety, wheeled sports safety, poison prevention and much more.


Ongoing Events

Free Child Safety Seat Check at the Gainesville Police Department

Every Tuesday from 9:00 - 11:00 and Friday from 3:00 - 5:00, the Gainesville Police Department (118 Jesse Jewell Parkway, next to CVS) sponsors a FREE child safety seat fitting station.  No appointments are necessary.  Certified child passenger safety technicians will check the installation of your child safety seat and provide assistance if needed.  Please note - child safety seats are NOT distributed at this location.


Child Safety Seat Distribution at Hall County Health Department

Every third Friday of the month, Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County sponsors a child safety seat class and distribution at the Hall County Health Department (1290 Athens Street, Gainesville) from 8:30 - 11:00.  Participants of the class must be a Hall County resident, Medicaid or Peachcare eligible and must be the parents or legal guardian of the child.  The class is $10.00 and payment must be made in CASH.  One seat per child.  (No classes in May, July or October).  Registration is required by calling the Hall County Health Department at (770) 532-5387.  2008 dates are 1/18/08, 2/15/08, 3/21/08, 4/18/08, 6/20/08, 8/15/08, 9/19/08, 11/21/08 and 12/19/08.


Child Safety Seat Class at Northeast Georgia Medical Center

Every first Wednesday of the month, Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County sponsors a FREE child safety seat class at the Essentially for Women Building (825 Jesse Jewell Parkway) from 7:00 - 9:00.  (No classes in January or July).  Registration is required by calling Women's and Children's Services at (770) 535-3357.  Please note - child safety seats are NOT distributed at this class.


Smoke Alarm and Carbon Monoxide Detector Distribution Program

The Gainesville Fire Department and Hall County Fire Services have teamed up with Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County to provide smoke alarms and carbon monoxide protectors to low-income families with children.  City residents should call the Gainesville Fire Department at (770) 534-3612 and Hall County residents should call Hall County Fire Services at (770) 531-6838.
